In the video Probation Officer: Session 1, there were many direct practice errors. At the beginning of this session, Mary was not very welcoming and even called out the client for being late. Mary also made several non-verbal communication errors such as remaining seated when the client arrived, checking her watch, and fidgeting. Because of Mary’s judgmental and unprofessional demeanor, the client seemed defensive and unwilling to partake in the session or treatment plan. In the second video there is a significant improvement in Mary’s attitude and professional behavior. In the second video, she greeted the client appropriately, kept eye-contact, and did not judge him. The client was more open to the treatment plan when he felt as though Mary cared about his recovery and could trust her.
